ReMote Installation Instructions

(NOTE: we shipped some very initial IS-II and MM ReMotes with the clamp backwards which will make the remote sit much to far back towards the rider.  Simply flip this around before installing)

Tools & Supplies:

  • Torque wrench
  • 4mm hex wrench
  • 4mm hex bit
  • 3mm hex wrench
  • 3mm hex bit
  • 2.5mm hex wrench
  • 2.5mm hex bit
  • 2mm hex key, toothpick, or similar (ReMote IS-AB and IS-II)
  • T25 Torx wrench (ReMote MM)
  • Thread locking compound (Loctite Blue 242 or equivalent)
  • Fresh dropper post cable and housing recommended.

ReMote MM:

  • Note: Installation requires SRAM MatchMaker X Hardware (T25 screw and curved-back T-nut).  If not included with brakes, kits are available from Wolf Tooth Components or your local bike shop.
  • Using a T25 Torx wrench, remove the lever mounting screw and hinged MatchMaker X clamp from the left brake lever
    • Brake lever will now be free of the handlebar
  • Place T-nut in curved recess in threaded side of MatchMaker clamp and lightly fasten ReMote assembly to clamp
    • Thumb lever face (with Wolf logo) should be facing the rider and roughly even with the bar (NOTE: we shipped some very initial parts with the clamp backwards which will make the remote sit much to far back towards the rider.  Simply flip this around before installing)
  • Reinstall MatchMaker clamp on brake lever. Torque T25 lever mounting screw to 2.8-3.4Nm.
  • Adjust ReMote angle to suit rider preference (it may be helpful to use the right shift paddle as a reference). Torque T25 ReMote screw to 2-3Nm.

ReMote IS-AB (I-Spec A):

(NOTE: we shipped some very initial parts with the clamp backwards which will make the remote sit much to far back towards the rider.  Simply flip this around before installing)

Note that this video will help with IS-A 

  • Using a 4mm hex wrench, remove lever mounting screw from the left brake lever.
  • Using a 2mm hex wrench or toothpick, push where marked "Push to Open" to release the brake lever safety pin.
    • Brake lever will now be free of the handlebar.
  • Remove dual-threaded post, M4 set screw, and M4 socket head cap screw from ReMote IS-AB assembly.
  • Remove M4 set screw from dual-threaded post.
  • Set aside dual-threaded boss and M4 set screw.
    • These parts are only used with Shimano I-Spec B brake levers.
  • Insert square-end threaded post into hole on the inside of brake lever clamp.
  • Add a drop of thread locker to leading threads of M4 socket head cap screw.
  • Hold aluminum ReMote mount against underside of brake lever and square-end threaded boss against inside of lever clamp.
    • Recess in ReMote mount will sit over exposed end of dual-threaded boss.
  • Using 3mm hex bit, thread M4 socket head cap through ReMote mount and into square-end threaded boss.
  • Torque socket head cap screw to 3-4Nm
  • Reattach brake lever to handlebar and torque to manufacturer's specification.

ReMote IS-AB (I-Spec B):

Note that this video will help with IS-B 

 

  • Set aside square-end threaded boss.
    • This part is only used with Shimano I-Spec A brake levers.
  • Using a 4mm hex wrench, remove lever mounting screw from the left brake lever.
  • Using a 2mm hex wrench or toothpick, push where marked "Push to Open" to release the brake lever safety pin.
    • Brake lever will now be free of the handlebar.
  • Remove dual-threaded post, M4 set screw, and M4 socket head cap screw from ReMote IS-AB assembly.
  • Remove M4 set screw from dual-threaded post.
  • Insert dual-threaded post into underside of brake lever.
    • It may be useful to screw M4 socket head cap screw into dual-threaded boss to make it easier to hold.
  • Add a drop of thread locker to flat-end threads of M4 set screw.
  • Using 2mm hex bit, insert M4 set screw into grip side of brake lever as shown.
    • Rotate dual-threaded boss as needed to align threaded hole with set screw
    • Thread set screw through dual-threaded boss until it stops.
    • Torque to 3-4Nm.
  • If used, remove M4 socket head cap screw from dual-threaded boss.
  • Add a drop of thread locker to leading end of M4 set screw.
  • Hold aluminum ReMote mount against underside of brake lever.
    • Recess in ReMote mount will sit over exposed end of dual-threaded boss.
  • Using 3mm hex bit, thread M4 socket head cap through ReMote mount and into dual-threaded boss.
  • Torque M4 socket head cap screw to 3-4Nm
  • Reattach brake lever to handlebar and torque to manufacturer's specification.

ReMote IS-II:

  • Using a 4mm hex wrench, remove lever mounting screw from the left brake lever
  • Using a 2mm hex wrench or toothpick, push where marked "Push to Open" to release the brake lever safety pin
    • Brake lever will now be free of the handlebar.
  • Pull gently to remove the plastic spacer from the inside of the brake lever clamp and set aside
  • Rub any remaining adhesive from the inside of the brake lever
  • Place the curved surface of the ReMote between the handlebar and brake lever
  • Close hinged clamp
    • The lever safety pin will re-engage
  • Reattach brake lever to handlebar
  • Adjust ReMote angle to suit rider preference (it may be helpful to use the right shift paddle as a reference).
  • Torque lever mounting screw to manufacturer's specification.

 

ReMote Lever:

  • Route cable housing from dropper post to ReMote so as to ensure smooth bends, sufficient room for free handlebar movement. Secure so as not to interfere with suspension, wheels, rider, or other moving parts
  • If your dropper post has a cable fixing clamp at the post end:
    • Cut barrel from cable
    • Fasten cut cable end at dropper post according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Screw barrel adjuster fully into ReMote body
  • Use 2.5mm hex key to back cable clamping screw and captive washer 2-3mm out of ReMote lever
  • Run cable through housing to ReMote and through ReMote barrel adjuster
  • Route cable through groove, under cable clamping screw/washer, and out behind lever
  • Pulling cable snug, use torque wrench and 2.5mm bit to tighten cable clamping screw to 3-4Nm
    • Cable may loosen slightly- this is expected and part of the self-tightening orientation of the clamping hardware
    • Do not overtighten.  Screw head is designed to fail before lever threads are damaged.
  • Use barrel adjuster to remove slack from cable
    • Some posts require a small amount of play at the lever- refer to manufacturer’s  instructions for setup guidelines
    • A too-tight cable may result in seatpost slippage or damage
    • If slack cannot be removed, loosen cable clamping screw and return to previous step.
  • Use M3 hex key to loosen lateral adjustment screw and move to preferred lever position.
    • Lever assembly may be snug on base and require screw removal prior to adjustment
  • Use torque wrench and 3mm hex bit to tighten lateral adjustment screw to 2-3Nm.
  • Test dropper post function, adjusting barrel adjuster to remove excessive play or tailor engagement point.
  • Trim cable such that end sits entirely behind lever
  • Install cable crimp to prevent fraying
  • Go for a ride!
